Leftover Culture Review – Advertising in Videos

Advertising has always been a subject I’ve always wanted to remain hyper-clear about. The Leftover Culture Review uses a service called Blip.tv to host our videos and we really appreciate the quality of the transcoding, the helpful support network and more than anything, the chance to grow the Leftover Culture Review as a programme with the advertising revenue.
Blip have updated their terms and agreements making pre-roll advertisements mandatory across all videos, so now, even our old stuff will likely have pre-roll adverts. Since starting the show, Blip have supported us by featuring our videos and recommending us. With the help and support of our content host (Blip) and other websites like the Atari Times, The Punk Effect and Retroware, we can honestly say that we’ve covered hosting costs and domain registration for 2013 – 2014.
The Ads might be annoying, but Blip limits them to 30-seconds and they’ve proven to really help manage the costs of the LOCR. We kindly ask anyone who is genuinely enjoying the show to turn off any advert-blocker programme (like ad-blocker), so we can see our hard work paying off firsthand.
Of course, there’s always our Youtube Channel. We don’t run any ads on Youtube (Youtube have consistently flagged every ‘monetised’ video for copyright infringement), but if you want to see the newest and latest LOCR content, the webpage or Blip is the best way to do that.
I’d love to hear about any thoughts on advertising, what’s too much, what’s acceptable. Are there any websites or shows that do it right or wrong? How can we improve the way we handle advertising?
