Ninja Commando (Neo Geo CD)

Ninja Commando (Neo Geo CD)

The best kind of Ninja?

Ninja Commando just seems like the coolest idea for a video game. Ninja’s infiltrating a base with a time machine, chasing the evil guy across time periods and it’s games like these that make me really thankful for the Neo Geo.

For anyone familiar with the Neo Geo, you’ll know ALL its games were ‘arcade’. So, you’re either going to love it, or hate it. It’s shallow gameplay, you can finish the game in less than an hour and it’s the same basic principal, scroll up shooting the baddies. There’s games you can play for hours, getting engrossed with the story and delving into the characters back stories but you won’t find those games on the Neo Geo.

It’s obvious we’ve had fun with this review. Scratching some of our special effects urges, our goal is to ‘capture’ some of the excitement we felt about this title. Neo Geo and most arcade-centric games are hard to review because there’s little context for them and/or little back-story behind them. They basically do what they say on the box.

Ninja Commando’s isn’t a stand-out from the era, but all the same, I was incredibly stoked to pick it up for the Neo Geo CD. Ninja’s, Robots, Samurai’s, dinosaurs and even World War 2, it’s a bizarre game that suits the Neo Geo CD console well; limited loading times and it feels great playing with the joypads (over the joysticks).
