Predator 2 (Sega Master System & Mega Drive (Genesis))
Some action-heavy Predator games exclusive for the Sega systems.
Straight up, both these Predator games were a major surprise. Packed full of action, played in a run-and-gun arcade style and honestly, this approach works really well for the Predator.
We’ve covered a few Alien and even Alien vs Predator games on the LOCR (Including Alien vs Predator Extinction on the PS2, AVP for the Atari Jaguar as well as for the Super Nintendo), but Predator only games seem to be a lot less popular. That’s until I found Predator 2 hiding out in the Sega exclusive library.
Both the Mega Drive and the Master System got their own similar but mostly unique Predator games based off the second movie in the franchise.
The best thing about the Predator 2 games is the focus. You play as Lt. Harrigan rescuing hostages throughout the city with the Predator constantly lurking in the foreground. The Predators start attacking eventually, but the main baddies are the thugs right up until the final stage. I was stoked to find an action game with a bit of pacing, you slowly gain access to better weapons and go eventually go up against stronger and more unique enemies.
Predator 2 was a hard game to research and find information for (link for the Wiki page), so this review is pretty much all hands-on observation and opinion but I really enjoyed both Predator 2 titles. The Sega Mega Drive version has a lot more things going for it; the controller has more buttons so you can strafe, the stages are bigger and there’s more variations on the enemies but I feel like the stripped back approach to the Master System game really made it stand out.
Both games are arcade styled blast fests, we had a lot of fun and it’s awesome to see that between Predator on the Nintendo and Predator: Concrete Jungle on the Playstation 2, Predator 2 has two really enjoyable games on both the Sega Mega Drive and Master System.
