Custom Lego Haunted House (MOC)

My Lego haunted House

Using pieces from Monster Fighters, Scooby Doo and the Monsters Mini-figures

I wanted a haunted house. One that reminded me of the old school cardboard pop-out ones I used to have as a kid. So I built one out of Lego. My very own custom Lego Haunted House. Using pieces from a range of Monster Fighters Lego sets, Scooby Doo and the Monsters Minifigure line, I created a haunted house with areas for certain monsters. A green house for the spreading plants. A mad scientists laboratory where Frankenstein comes to life. A zombie lounge area, spooky kitchen and the Mummy’s shrine. On the roof of the playset, we have the pirates lookout and a small room for Dracula to conduct his ghastly business.

The custom lego haunted house build

The haunted house uses the base plan for the official Lego haunted house set in the Monster Fighters line. I rebuilt the base using what I had available and tried to enhance it where I could.

Bottom level

So on the bottom level of the haunted house, we’ve got a lot of space dedicated to the mad scientist’s laboratory where he has space to work on his Frankenstein monster. I wanted to ensure when the set was closed, theoretically there’d be enough room for a Lego minifigure to navigate the house. So Frankenstein sits on a swivel bench that can also be left upright with just enough space for a figure to navigate to the back door. There’s enough space to access the stairway leading up to second level.

Second level

On the second level, we have the zombie lounge area with record player, books and a safe filled with gold. This side of the building also has a kitchen area. This is taken brick-for-brick from the Scooby Doo Monster Mansion set and adapted to sit flush. On the other side of the second level we have the Mummy Museum Exhibit. This is also from the Scooby Doo Lego line. A lot of the set was left intact, but I incorporated it into an entire level of the building with sand bricks. It also uses pieces from the Monster Fighters Chariot.

Roof

On the roof level, my least polished area, we have the ghoul pirate. It’s his crow’s nest. His old boat he sunk in, as well as his trusty cannon help him keep a lookout. We also have Dracula’s room, filled with old junk and his coffin. The roof is removable on both sides, giving plenty of access to his tightly packed room. The location at the top of the house means he can come and go during the night whenever he pleases.

Surrounding the house, we have the werewolf swamp playset from the Monster Fighters line, Dracula’s Hotrod Hearse and a greenhouse, also taken from Scooby Doo’s Haunted Mansion. Compared to the original build, I felt these additions added a lot of character and gave the haunted house a bit more atmosphere.

The greenhouse in particular makes the perfect home for our plant guy minifigure. I’ve modified it slightly to sit flush with the custom Lego haunted house.

Being a MOC project, this is a constant work in progress but I’m excited to hear any thoughts, feedback or ideas. Moving forward I’d love to buy the actual Lego Haunted House from Monster Fighters and incorporate the roof section better as well as make the brickwork here a little more consistent.
