Dick Tracy (Sega Master System)
Thankfully, the Sega received their own (better) Dick Tracy games.
LOCR Producer: I know from the research phase of this review, the NES version of Dick Tracy has left a really bad taste in the mouth of Dick Tracy fans. This Master System version is far from the best game ever, made but it’s extremely playable and possibly the best Dick Tracy experience available.
Dick Tracy for the Master System (And also the Mega Drive (Genesis)) is an incredibly arcade experience; you walk right and shoot. Occasionally, you’re not able to use your pistol, and these stages are by far the most frustrating because the enemies get to keep theirs. Also, the controls feel moderately stiff, especially when ducking and moving.
To break up all the action, there’s also driving stages and a shooting gallery mini-game, again, the arcade feel really shines through which I think works perfectly for a Master System title. It isn’t ambitious, it knows what it is and it remains thoroughly playable.
This game doesn’t break any new ground but I found it incredibly easy to pick up and play, the controls do detract from the game somewhat, but if you’re patient I feel like this game trumps the NES version in every way.
