SNK Neo Geo CD Console Review
Neo Geo’s budget option… Did it compare with the AES?
The Neo Geo is the premium video game console of the 90’s. Powerful, desirable and out of reach for any average gamer. This was the pinnacle of the 16 bit era; the era that strived for that arcade experience at home only had one true champion, the Neo Geo.
The Neo Geo was never a runaway success, and there’s plenty of reasons for that, but it wasn’t because it was disliked. The Neo Geo was prohibitively expensive, and by the time SNK released the Neo Geo CD to combat costs, 3D footage from the next round of super-consoles was making it look dated.
The Neo Geo CD may not be as desirable or sought after as the Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System, but it still remains one of the cheapest ways to play classic SNK games on the original hardware and if you’re a fan of pure arcade action, it’s hard to look past the Neo Geo. Nearly all the games that were available on the AES can be found on CD and even though loading time can kill the experience for some games, there are still plenty of worthwhile titles for the console.
