Vigilante (Sega Master System)
This is our first published review ever, all the way back on the 24th of August, 2011… Can you feel the nostalgia of a bygone era in retro videogame reviews?
LOCR Producer: So it’s pretty obvious Bruiser enjoys the beat em up’s, especially when it’s mostly beating and not so much tactics and skill. Just be mindful that if you decide not to jump through this game and actually do it all the legit way, scrolling right beating up every thug, it will get very boring and frustrating; Vigilante is an original arcade game designed to suck up your money.
If you do jump through, you’ll find yourself at the end in about 20 minutes. This is one of those games that could have been heaps better with a two player mode, but as far as the Master system goes, it presents well and it’s a solid experience, there’s different locations and thugs, it’s animated nicely and some of the small details (like the first boss leaning back, relaxing, until it’s time to fight) are nice.
Even though the story in Vigilante is pretty basic, I can appreciate how much depth it gives to a game with such shallow gameplay. Compared to its rivals, Vigilante stacks up well. Worth looking into if you’re a fan of the genre but don’t go in with high expectations.
